The Beginning of a New Adventure: Part 1 (How it Happened)
Well if you didn't know yet that I moved, then now you do :) Here's how it happened:
On January 3, 2018, I started an online certification course to teach English as a foreign language. The website I was using has a job board that pulls from multiple sites, so it's a pretty comprehensive list of all the available jobs to teach English all over the world. So a few weeks after starting the course, I decided to start browsing the job boards. There was so much available that it was overwhelming. So I narrowed it down to Asia and housing provided, which led me to discover that South Korea not only has the highest demand for Native English Speaking teachers, but they also have the best overall benefits. And thus, my obsession with Korean Dramas and K-Pop was about to become something more.
On Monday January 22, 2018, I was browsing the job board and came across a particular position that sounded like a dream job for me. So for the heck of it, I decided to apply, thinking nothing would come of it. Little did I know that would change the course of my life :)
The next day, I got an email requesting an interview with a recruiter. By Wednesday, I had an interview set up for Friday evening my time, Saturday mid-day Korean time. That interview went very well and the recruiter, Tony, thought I would be a very good fit for the job. So he set up an interview with the school director for the following Monday evening.
The phone interview with the director went well, but it didn't seem like it went great from my perspective. So I was fully expecting it not going any further. But then, Thursday morning, I got an email from the recruiter saying that they wanted to offer me the job. I was floored. Within a few hours, after sending the contract to my parents to make sure it seemed reasonable, and real, I had signed the contract and accepted the position.
In short, I applied for a job in South Korea on a Monday, and by the next Thursday I got the job.
The contract started on March 6, and I had signed the contract February 1. So I had a little over a month to prepare to move to South Korea :)
I gave my two weeks notice on February 2, had my last day of work on the 22nd, ended up getting a little delayed by Visa processing and didn't leave for Korea until March 10.
That's all I'm going to tell for today. Next time I will write about, and share photos of, my actual move to South Korea.
Until next time!
